Hello, I am Ian. I started cleaning/pressing comic books in 2021 as a result of being bored during the pandemic. I watched a multitude of videos on various techniques and figured out what worked best for my books and with my equipment. I became a bit obsessive over the process, as I found it enjoyable. I ended up pressing and cleaning most of my own books that needed work, which at the time was around 150 books. After a while, I ran out of books to press and clean.
Eventually, I added on IoT automation as a sort of backup to my pressing process. It eliminates human error. Whenever I press books, I have a secondary kill-switch that runs via IoT automation which ensures over-pressing CANNOT happen.
I started intentionally seeking out inexpensive damaged and distressed books in order to grow and improve my techniques. I built an automated BLED chamber, ensuring all books would continually undergo a consistent BLED process. The process stays 100% consistent and unchanged via IoT device automation that prevents overexposure. The BLED chamber worked well, so I started experimenting with stain removal and whitening using the Heat Overlay Press method. This method can be risky, and it's probably not worth it for all books, but it does a lot. If you're interested in this, we'll provide a consultation before you ever send us anything.
Additionally, I'd like to give credit to the following comic book cleaners and pressers, as they have taught me a lot in my journey: Kaptain Myke, Bronze and Modern Gods, Immaculate Comics, Jerry the Jitterbug, and Top Comics Pressing.
I personally find pressing and cleaning comics to be very fun, and it's not too difficult. If you'd like to learn how to do this yourself, please check out videos made by the names listed above. I highly encourage anyone that collects to learn how to press and clean on your own by watching the list of YouTubers provided; but if you'd rather not, we're here for you.
